  • The focus of this paper is an examination of the campus ministry known as Coalition for Christian Outreach as viewed from within the United Presbyterian Church, USA. Coalition is an interdenominational organization based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, which began in 1971. At issue is the question whether Coalition's ministries are compatible with a Presbyterian understanding of ministry. A comparison of Coalition's ministry with a Presbyterian understanding of ministry finds substantial compatibility except in the area of accountability. Coalition can provide a ministry which can complement, but not replace, the professional ministries of the Presbyterian church (UPCUSA).
