Abstrakt

This project provides a model that demonstrates how preaching can be an effective tool in helping to build self-esteem among African Americans in the church and broader community. The results of pre- and post-testing provide adequate evidence of this project's effectiveness. The self-esteem of the congregation increased and the value of the Bible as a resource for continued growth in this area was recognized. Although the project was developed and implemented at the St James Christian Methodist Episcopal Church of Chicago Heights, Illinois, it is a model that can and should be replicated in churches across geographical and denominational lines.
