- This report will explore the use of the Intensive Journal, a method developed by Dr. Ira Progoff for enabling personal growth and life integration, as a tool for pastors in working with their personal and professional lives and as a tool for ministry with their congregations. The project upon which this report is based centers on the author’s own experience in the use of the Intensive Journal as a pastor since 1975 and on a survey of selected pastors, seminarians, and laity who have been introduced to the Intensive Journal method. The objectives of this report are the following: to describe the Intensive Journal method and evaluate it from the viewpoint of the Christian faith and ministry; to describe and evaluate its practical life of the pastor and as a tool for ministry in the local church; and to make observations, recommendations, and suggestions for future use of the Intensive Journal by pastors.
