There is a deep need to develop some real answers to the pain and confusion that eventuate from pastoral burnout. In the United Church of Christ, the situation is complicatd by an historical no-intrusion policy called autonomy. This prevents or at least delays any quality intervention. The author uses his own experience, as well as other resources, to build a workable, creative model of strategies that is offered as a contribution to ministry. It is at once therapeutic, but suggestive of preventative directions as well. It is clear that care given to pastors is also desperately needed by their congregations.
