  • Life together: spirituality for transforming communities is the Doctor of Ministry track through which this study has emerged. Originally the thesis question was: what wisdom can be learned from the ways the United Methodist Church and the Episcopal Church have engaged in debates and made decisions relating to the ordination of women and the ordination of gay and lesbian persons and the interactions of the respective denominations with their global partners? However, as this study has unfolded it became clear that the first question to be addressed is that of how our denominations, in the context of our histories, the social issues and ecclesial issues that have and continue to shape our lives, can come together as we seek to become transformed communities. Therefore this study explores a theological understanding of the democratic polities of the United Methodist Church and the Episcopal Church and reflects on our movement towards 'life together'.
