  • This project seeks to determine if John Carver's nonprofit governance model (Boards that Make a Difference, San Francisco: Jossey-Boss Publishers, 1990) can improve Session leadership in a Presbyterian Congregation. New Testament leadership values are described. The change in Session responsibilities from John Calvin to the present are reviewed. The rationale for using Carver's model is explained. Steps taken to implement the model are documented. Results from focus group and Session self-evaluations indicate the model was very helpful in areas of visioning, accountability, openness, and knowing/fulfilling responsibilities.
