Abstrakt

This project attempts to provide the parish pastor with an introduction to the theoretical knowledge and practical skills which will enable the minister to be more effective in the pastoral care of children. It will focus on the psychological, sociological, theological, and practical aspects of the parish pastor’s ministry with children. Special attention is given to contemporary child developmental theories (chapter two) and to counseling techniques which may be used with children (chapter three). The crisis situations of grief, divorce, and hospitalization illustrate situations in which the pastor may use the insights of child developmental theory and child counseling techniques in the pastoral care of children. The final chapter seeks to offer a theological model for the pastoral care of children and it suggests principles of the pastoral care of children which arise out of the research of this project.
