- How can a plateaued and stagnant congregation become revitalized? One way is by becoming more focused and intentional in ministry through establishing and implementing a mission statement. Through a series of Bible studies, we developed a mission statement and established goals and strategies for its implementation. Our progress was measured using Stephen A. Maccia's Becoming a healthy church: 10 characteristics. Initial results, while not cataclysmic and overwhelming, indicate some promising signs of revitalization. Overall members feel positive about the ministry in that there is a clear sense of who we are and what we should be doing in ministry.
