Abstrakt

At its center, biblical faith claims that God saves. This essay sets the parameters of a Christian understanding of salvation within the framework of the church's message and liturgy. The message of salvation begins with a word about death and ends in a word about life. This message is dramatically demonstrated in the sacraments of baptism and communion; baptism as initiatory and communion as culmination. The result of a fuller understanding of salvation is solid grounding for the church's renewal. A rich soteriology both focuses the church on God's specific saving actions, and offers a clear invitation of inclusion into God's saving reign.
