  • This project examined the psycho-spiritual dynamics of healing offered by New Beginnings, a successful, church-based ministry to single-again adults. Focus group interviews were conducted to provide data for qualitative analysis. Participants' stories included the needs they brought to the ministry and the resultant healing and growth which came through a sense of safety, community and other aspects of God's mediating love. Theoretical resources for synthesis and theological reflection on the focus group data included John Bowlby, Charles Gerkin, Henri Nouwen and Merle Jordan. The nature of attachment, separation and loss and evolving God and self-images were noted. Implications for pastoral care were explored.
