  • The time of transition following the tenure of a long-time pastor is a significant period in the life of a local congregation. The purpose of this study was to examine how elders and pastoral search committees in Presbyterian Church in America congregations approached the pastoral transition process when their previous pastor served for ten or more years. Qualitative case studied were utilized to investigate the transition process. Findings identify characteristics where transition results were successful, problematic, and mixed.
