  • The purpose of this thesis is to inform the reader how to locate, catalog and use sermon illustrations. The writer first reported in the thesis various ways a minister could locate sermon illustrations from publications and personal life experiences. Second, the author presented methods to catalog sermon illustrations for future use; that is, to catalog by subject or lectionary topics. Third, the author presented forty criteria to be observed on how to best select and use a particular illustration in a sermon. The research was conducted by interviewing clergy and reporting laity's evaluations of the use of illustrations in sermons.
