Abstrakt

The author, a chaplain at a chronic care facility, created a contemporary version of 'The Art of Dying Well.' The thesis offers both a theological discussion and a practical model. The author approached patients with chronic diseases and examined how life-threatening illnesses challenge their view of life and death. She surveyed and adapted classic ars moriendi literature (Johannes Geiler von Kaysersberg, Martin Luther, Jeremy Taylor) and the views of contemporary theologians speaking to the issues of dying and death. The author finally introduced a practical theological process for rediscovering a positive meaning of death and dying for our time.
