  • Christianity among the Agikuyu still remains highly Western creating a cultural dissonance. Missionaries and colonialists alienated Gikuyu lands and also rejected their traditional religion and culture. Field research included questionnaires and group interviews in rural and urban churches of the Roman Catholic Church, Presbyterian Church of East Africa and the African Independent Pentecostal Church of Africa. The research discloses elements of Agikuyu traditional religion and culture could be integrated into Christianity making it truly relevant. Jesus Christ can be appreciated as ancestor, prophet, liberator, medicine man, and sacrificial lamb. Inculturation will also include catechesis, liturgy, sacraments, music, art, architecture, marriage and organization.
