The author's claim is that preaching is an effective means of engaging young people in their faith journey. Young people often feel disenfranchised within the life of the worshipping community, but there are models of preaching that can nurture a strong sense of empowerment. Through surveys, group work, and observations of worshipping youth, the author proposes a model of conversational preaching that helps to bring youth into active participation with the development of the sermon. Through applying the conversational preaching model, the author shows that the sermon is an effective tool in helping youth discover the church as a legitimate partner in their faith journey.
