  • The purpose of the project was to determine if a chaplain-led support group could reduce the level of staff resistance to their care of AIDS patients. Chapter 1 presents the report of the US Surgeon, C Everett Koop, as to the medical myths and facts about AIDS, and the unsuccessful attempts of Elizabeth Kubler-Ross to build a local clinic for children with AIDS. Chapter 2 gives a biblical, theological, and historical view of the treatment of lepers, a metaphor chosen for modern AIDS patients. Chapter 3 offers a description of an eight-week program designed to reduce the resistance staff members feel toward AIDS patients and the research instruments used to measure the effects of the group. Chapter 4 presents the interpretation of the test results and the ministry project is evaluated in Chapter 5.
