  • The author's purpose in this study was to assess the pre-field preparation of cross-cultural independent Baptist church planters. Eighty-seven cross-cultural church planters and eleven mission agency executives were surveyed in order to understand better current practices of missionary selection and requirements for missionary service. Church planters appraised the value of their pre-field training and practical experience. Mission agency executives explained their process for candidate selection. Of particular concern were the areas of church planting formal training, experience, strategy, and competencies.
