  • This is a report of a project in which a small group of older women from the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Hastings, Nebraska, gathered to learn about the thirteenth century Beguines and themselves over the course of one month of weekly meetings followed by a three-day retreat. The women used story-linking to connect familiar stories of their friends with biblical scriptures and with writings by Mechthild of Madgeburg. From this, the women gained confidence in their wisdom, decided to claim leadership in some areas in their congregation, and became even more involved in their faith community.
