Abstrakt

The project thesis is that deacons are model servants who meet physical needs, preserve unity in the church, and assist elders in shepherding God's flock. The thesis was taken from observations and study from 1 Timothy 3:1-8, Philippians 1:1, and Acts 6:1-6. 1 John 2:12-14 is a companion text relating to deacon qualifications. Chapter 2 answers two questions: 'who are deacons to be,' and 'what are deacons to do?' Chapter 3 addresses how deacons can help preserve unity in the church by developing conflict resolution training skills. Chapter 4 chronicles the research methodology of the project: congregational surveys, preaching series, and sixteen-weeks of men's training. Chapter 5 evaluates the project.
