The author discusses how the Shaw Community Ministry of the United Church of Christ can help reduce youth violence and unrest in one of the 'hot spot' areas of Washington, DC. The author introduces the Youth Development Project as a model program that serves as an impetus to reduce youth violence while encouraging disadvantaged youth to become well-rounded and productive citizens. The author defines the spiritual commitment of the United Church of Christ to social action and how understanding the theological concept of the Holy Trinity and its usefulness can reduce tension in historically black and presently gentrifying Shaw Community.
