Abstrakt

This project identifies the critical contribution of a senior pastor in developing a cohesive, functional leadership community composed of staff and nonstaff leaders by undertaking research in two congregations where such communities exist. Defining effective Christian leadership on the basis of Bible study and analysis of current leadership literature, the project tests that definition against the observations and experiences of senior pastors who successfully construct the leadership teams seen in the case studies. The project then applies principles derived from these studies in another church environment philosophically and situationally resistant to vocational staff.
