Abstrakt

A permanent endowment fund, together with guidelines and a management committee, were established in a local church. These were based on the biblical concept of the tithe, the stewardship teachings of Jesus and Paul, a theology of money, and various psychological motivations. The process included outside consultation, a four-session study course and five sermons on stewardship. The pre- and post-course evaluation demonstrated that the study course significantly changed beliefs about stewardship and tithing, and promoted participation in the endowment fund. Recommendations include developing a theological base, yoking study with practical guidance, and intentionally cultivating potential donors.
