Abstrakt

The dissertation employed a case study approach to examine a situation of the sexual abuse of children. In the situation, twelve children and male adolescents were sexually abused by a male teenager from the church family. The focus of the research was upon the manner in which the leadership dealt with the problem. Information was gathered from various parties involved; the responses of these various groups were then compared and evaluated. The goal of the research was to discover and chronicle principles of leadership in the midst of a crisis, specifically one involving sexual abuse in a church. Questions regarding church discipline involved what constitutes cause for official church discipline, how discipline is to be carried out, and what also constitutes reason for the removal of the action. The dissertation also briefly addressed the issue of the relationship of church and state in matters involving the criminal activity of a church member. The conclusion was to declare that leadership involvement in managing crises is a necessary and constitutent part of church ministry.
