Abstrakt

This project will demonstrate the viability and relevance of applied doctrinal preaching. The project deals with the subject in several major areas. First, a definition of applied doctrinal preaching is formulated. This is done with reference to homiletic theory and the history of preaching. Second, the relevance, validity, and viability of applied doctrinal preaching is explored. The conclusions are biblically and sociologically informed. Modern theories of church growth and the history of preaching are taken into consideration. Third, applied doctrinal preaching is illustrated by reference to sermons taken from the age of the Puritans to the present.
