  • Using the Chilean art form of the arpillera as a creative metaphor for preaching, this thesis seeks to offer distinct remnants for the assembly of a context-specific homiletical theory in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chile. Like the arpillera, a collage of fabric scraps that tell a story and create a response, the practice of preaching joins together the elements of dogmatics, hermeneutics, ecclesiology, rhetoric, and mission, as determined in their specific context, to tell a story and to create a response. Orality and congregational exegesis are highlighted.
