Abstrakt

The overarching goal of this project was to enhance the ecclesiastical, historical and theological identity of the people of the First Church of Christ, Congregational (United Church of Christ), in Redding, Connecticut--an affluent, denominationally diverse and racially homogeneous community. The parallel and reciprocity inspiring implementation of a six-session course on our history and an international, interracial local church partnership strengthened our identity as a community of faith in both the local and global sense. Surveys of participants (and interviews with other congregations engaged in partnership) reveal deepened historical understanding, grappling with the tension of faith and affluence, spiritual awakening and transformation.
