  • This study began from the premise that Churches of Christ, a consciously non-theological tradition, can benefit from theological, biblical, and practical reflection on their work of ministry. The dissertation probes New Testament material, historical material, and current thinking on ministry, including interviews with fifteen ministers in Churches of Christ, to provide some theological thinking about ministry. In spite of some lack of clarity, the ministers interviewed showed remarkable agreement that preaching was their defining role. The study concluded that apostolicity, understood as witness to the word of Jesus Christ, but flexible enough to include administration and pastoral care, is an appropriate model for ministry in Churches of Christ.
