  • Divorce and remarriage is the single greatest factor for loss of church membership in the 1980's. The dissertation analyzes the five passages of the New Testament on the subject, reflects on centuries of Catholic practice and tradition, states current church law, presents the damage of folklore about divorce and remarriage, and describes support groups. The conclusions are: 1. a divorced Catholic is never prohibited from receiving communion; 2. a divorced Catholic remarried outside the church could be admitted to the sacraments without an annulment; and 3. a second marriage can be sacred in the Roman Catholic Church without an annulment.
