Abstrakt

The study presents Paulo Freire's principles and methods for human liberation and applies them to the Alcoholics Anonymous model of recovery in chemical dependency. Primary focus is on 'conscientizacao', the transformation of human consciousness from object/victim state to subject/actor state. The workshop section of the paper includes lectures presented to a group of adolescents in chemical dependency treatment, plus practical suggestion and guidelines assisting the self-disclosure process in the fourth and fifth step work of AA.
