Abstrakt

The 'Preparation for Creative Marriage' program is designed to help engaged couples prepare for married life by developing understandings and skills that will enable them to develop the most mutually fulfilling marriage of which they are capable. Presented to a small group of no more than seven couples over six sessions, the format combines theory presentation, discussion, home assignments and skill development. Couples who took the course indicated improvement in their relationship-development skills and a clarification of values and goals for their relationship. The participants felt that they could deal with conflict more openly and creatively than before and had learned some important communication skills. The couples also stated they would be more willing to seek counseling if serious difficulties should arise in their marriage.
