- This study examines a community-based juvenile offender treatment program that uses restitution as an aid to rehabilitation. The program's premise is that antisocial behavior correlates with inappropriate or lack of appropriate socialization, ie, poor sense of self, irresponsibility, and insensitivity toward others. The project designs programs to develop socialization skills and accountability. A fourfold greater recidivism is noted in the control group which is comprised of those who are dropped for nonparticipation than in the treated group which consists of those who graduate. The project presents six representative case studies. It reviews emerging trends and suggests areas for future research.
