Abstrakt

In the postmodern 'world without a story,' narrative preaching seeks to evoke meaning by offering a winsome and compelling pattern of reality to the hearers' imaginations. The author's thesis is that preaching based on story or image evokes meaning by connecting the shape of the liturgical celebration with the shape of individual, communal, and pastoral 'liturgies after the liturgy.' Members of the congregation helped to form the sermons, discerning with the author the patterns of the biblical story, the liturgical event, and the stories of their lives. The sermons discussed did touch the hearers' imaginations and kindle them for mission.
