Abstrakt

Thesis: the ability to laugh is part of the imago Dei, and laughter at oneself, including one's opinions, presumptions, and fears, is a sign of spiritual health. Sources of data include personal interviews, reading, group retreats, and reflections on the author's experiences in ministry. Eight chapters deal with the following topics: (1) the phenomenon of laugher; (2) laughter and the church; (3) a God who laughs; (4) angels and dirt (human nature as a 'hybrid' of spirit and flesh); (5) humor and humility; (6) laughter and conversion; (7) Christ the clown; (8) Easter laughter.
