- A psychological assessment model was developed to provide consultation to a bishop that assists the bishop: in making determinations about a pastor's present professional abilities and functioning as they are impacted by the pastor's psychological health; and, in providing appropriate leadership and pastoral care to that pastor. Using formative evaluative research, seven steps in developing the model included one initial implementation, plus evaluations and revisions. The final model includes a description of the brief assessment process and criteria on which to base the clergy assessment. Findings supported, but did not prove, the usability and effectiveness of the model. The process and criteria developed in the model can serve as a basis for designing consultation processes for other church leaders when brief psychological assessment of clergy is desired.
