  • This project evaluates the effectiveness of the Lutheran WATCH spiritual renewal retreat in (1) promoting personal spiritual renewal, (2) promoting increased and lasting involvement in congregational life, and (3) assimilating new members into the church. The project traces the development of the retreat's design to accomplish these objectives. The achievement of these objectives is evaluated through the use of reflections by retreat participants, surveys of retreat alums, and interviews with pastors. The research discloses that the WATCH retreat does promote spiritual renewal, increased church involvement, and to a lesser degree, new membership assimilation.
