Abstrakt

This project was undertaken in order to gather information to formulate an effective ministry in a racially changing parish church and community; to investigate the racial transition from white to black in the subdivision in which the local church is located and to assess the nature and direction of this change; to study the way the parish has responded in the past, the way the church is presently responding to the problems of this racially-transitional community and analyze the findings to help the local church meet the needs of a multi-racial congregation. Churches in racial-transitional communities come up against powerful social forces that make it extremely difficult for them to survive and carry on a ministry. However, they have a good chance of maintaining a presence in such areas when they develop a sense of mission towards all residents of the communities irrespective of racial-ethnic identities.
