Abstrakt

The district superintendent is the catalyst in this program which models a correlation between development of the devotional life and the empowerment of the church. Implementing a five-step program over a two-year period in northeast Ohio to encourage spiritual deepening and prayer, we experienced the following: it has brought cohesion in a diverse and divergent district; the role of the superintendent is viewed as a positive force for increasing vitalization; a larger number of churches have experienced an increase in average worship attendance; and, the downward plunge in district totals for worship and church school attendance has stopped.
