  • The thesis of this dissertation is that many adult members of the church do not understand the essential nature of church membership. This project is designed as a means for developing mature church members, helping them grow in their expression of Christian discipleship, enabling the church to express its mission to the world, and assisting church members to make the promises of their vows realities in their lives. This project describes a series of six sessions with twelve adult lay persons in which the essential nature of church membership was explored from biblical, theological and historical perspectives. The project is evaluated by the use of individual presession and postsession interviews. The evaluation reveals that all participants gained significant understanding of the essential nature of church membership.
