  • This project was designed to measure the improvement in appropriate conflict management styles of 12 pastors following participation in a six-month, six one-day session conflict management seminar. Improvements were measured through beginning and ending completion of the Jay Hall Conflict Management Survey; a comparison of participants' beginning and ending survey scores with a control group of eleven pastors who completed the survey at similar intervals; and participants' final reports on the accomplishment of goals stated at the beginning. Seminar work included a consideration of 1. identity issues for the pastor; 2. theology and ministry; 3. theology of the church; 4. theology of conflict; and 5. the pastor's role as manager. Conflict case studies of participants were also shared and evaluated. Improvement in appropriate style use occurred for most participants as measured by the survey, when reported in goal accomplishment and when compared with the control group.
