  • Will inductive, narrative sermons hold more memory retention in listeners than deductive, didactic sermons in Chinese sermons? The author compared and contrasted the effectiveness of inductive, narrative and deductive, didactic preaching upon listener retention in a Chinese church. The author preached four Old Testament sermons and four New Testament sermons in his church. The participants received a quiz to be completed immediately following each sermon. The results indicated that there was little difference between Old and New Testament sermons on participants' memory retention. The variation, however, slightly favored retention for Old Testament sermons.
