  • This dissertation advances the thesis that there is a common denominator in the use of Scripture in Hispanic theology. Hispanic theology strives to find points of contact between the socio-historical experience of Latino communities and their religious expressions. Latino theological thought discusses topics which are important for the Latino people--like migration--by confronting the challenges of today with the biblical and theological experiences of the past. Hispanic theologians establish a correlation between the social location of the Latino people and that of the biblical texts. The implications of this correlation are evoked by a key metaphor that embodies their findings and functions, thus, as a paradigmatic concept. Then, the paradigm is used to exegete both the Bible and Hispanic reality. This dissertation discusses such thesis and states the implications of this hermeneutical model for Latino theological thought.
