- The thesis of this project is that family systems theory in correlation with process theology offers a new conceptual framework from which to train leaders in Presbyterian congregations. This paper documents a historical process toward partnership at work within Presbyterian leadership and an impasse which now blocks its forward movement. It develops a practical theology for ecclesial leadership by utilizing Daniel Day Wiliams' interpretation of the imago dei as the will to belong and Edwin H. Friedman's family systems leadership model, and reports on a project applying that practical theology in a training program for Presbyterian elders.
