- The purpose of the practicum was to assess the needs of Catholic married couples today in their desire to strengthen their marital relationship and deepen their interpersonal sharing. Data was obtained through classroom experiences, interviews with married couples, participation in weekend programs for engaged couples, marriage enrichment weekends, seminars for those entering second marriages, and working in the Office of Marriage and Family Ministry for the Diocese of Kalamazoo evaluating their present programs and developing structures for future programs. The practicum project is a weekend retreat experience which represents a synthesis of the areas to which married couples need to be attentive today if their marital relationship is to grow in all areas of their lives, to be supportive of personal and shared goals, life giving, and an experience of interpersonal intimacy.
