Abstrakt

This project proposes that a funeral sermon presents a unique opportunity to present the hope of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, testing that hypothesis by preparing, presenting, and evaluating five funeral sermons. Within a funeral setting mourners are pondering not only the death of the deceased but also their own destiny. In five separate focus groups evaluating the sermons as presented on videotape, 46 percent of participants call for the sermons to offer a promise of eternal life in Christ.
