  • The author sought to demonstrate that with training persons in a congregation can learn ways to establish caring relationships with, and convey God's love to others in the congregation. Through a seven-week training course, the author sought to cultivate, within those participating, the ability to interact with others in ways that would enliven and enhance their spiritual and emotional well-being. As a result of his research, the author reached two conclusions: that the congregation and its governing board viewed the establishment of a lay caregiving ministry in the church as important; and, that through systematic training, lay people could be adequately equipped to provide ministries of pastoral care within the congregation.
