  • This dissertation/project is an experimental approach with white Anglo-Saxon evangelical college students in an effort to determine if working in a helping relationship with African-Americans will bring about change in racial attitudes. Eighty students were placed in tutoring situations in public schools in Cincinnati, Ohio. They tutored grade-school students for two hours or more a week for 12 weeks. The three months of contact did not improve racial attitudes because the students already had good attitudes. What the project did accomplish was a significant improvement in spiritual inventories.
