- This dissertation on ministerial burnout presents a dialogue between the discipline of biblical studies and feminist psychology. Four categories of brokenness--divisiveness, arrogance, idolatry, and hardness of heart--gleaned through exegesis of Paul's letters to the Corinthians and the Ephesians are explored. Five ways of knowing for women--'silence,' as well as 'received,' 'procedural,' 'subjective,' and 'constructivist' knowing--attributed to Mary Belenky and her research group are considered. The methodology of the praxis circle, including the movements of formation, event, self-interest, theological assumptions, social science assumptions, and new praxis, is employed. Ten stories based on interviews are presented. Implications for pastoral counselors working with women experiencing ministerial burnout include the relevance of Paul's categories and Belenky's ways of knowing, the appropriateness of 'mending brokenness' as an image of reconciliation and the importance of storytelling in 'finding one's voice'.
