Abstrakt

The proposed project will develop a biblical response to channeling and its claims. The New Age religious emphasis upon channeling will be contrasted with the Christian worldview and a method of pastoral ministry consistent with the polity of a Baptist church. The purpose is to make a Southern Baptist congregation aware of the challenge of New Age channeling and to teach the congregation, through a selected study group, how to respond to the challenges of New Age theologies and why the response is necessary. First, the project will focus on familiarizing the participant group from the Calvary Baptist Church of Inola, Oklahoma, with the claims of channeling. Second, the project will endeavor to develop a faithful biblical hermeneutic so that the study group can respond to these claims. Ultimately, the combined purpose is not only to understand, but also to be able to answer the treat presented by channeling to the Christian church. A residual benefit, it is hoped, will be the development of a consistently biblical hermeneutic for future use by the study group, the church, and its pastor so that the congregation can continue to meet the challenge of channeling.
