Abstrakt
  • This qualitative study is an investigation of the bereavement experience of ten organ donor family members, with special attention to the role of religious beliefs and spiritual practices in the grief recovery process. The paradoxical needs of maintaining continuity and adjusting to loss are assisted by religious beliefs and spiritual practices including the experience of some 'transcendent moment.' The fact of organ donation and possibility of being in touch with recipients helped give meaning to and palliate the loss. Follow-up care, especially in the long-term, is sparse and much needed.
