  • The objective of this project was to identify societal issues and personal traits such as spirituality, personality, education, and appearance within the St. Jude African Methodist Episcopal Church membership which could cause new members to perceive that they are either connected to or disconnected from the congregation. The researcher implemented a diversity workshop, cultural heritage awareness night and focus group. A questionnaire was used to develop qualitative data to evaluate the project. The final product was a 'compendium of connectivity' which identified how current members may see new members as empowered, connected, or disconnected. The congregation is now more inclusive.
